Senior Iraqi journalist wounded in attack
BAGHDAD (AFP) — A leading Iraqi journalist was shot and wounded Saturday in a drive-by shooting in the capital, an official at the Iraqi journalists' union told AFP.
Shihab Al-Timimi, 75, who heads the organisation, was rushed to a Baghdad hospital with a bullet wound to the chest after gunmen in a speeding car opened fire on his vehicle, union secretary general Moaed Al-Lami said.
The attack happened as Timmimi was driving to the union headquarters with his 23-year-old son Rabea, who was also wounded in the attack, Lami said.
Timimi had headed the union since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003.
